March Show and Tell

Another amazing month of beautiful quilts by our talented members!

"Kansas Troubles" & "Sailboats" by Leslie Oldham - Kansas troubles - this great throw is made with reds, golds and greens - quilted by Virginia Gore. Pattern is from Morgensons. Sailboats is from a design she saw at Deseret Book/Mormon Handicrafts. This darling baby quilt is made in primary colors - red, yellow and blue. She quilted it herself!

"Dear Jane Memories Quilt" & "Big Bold Star" by Bonnie Miles - The Dear Jane quilt is a memory quilt, signed by the participants of the 'Dear Jane' tour in 2009. Tour information is embroidered all around the border - places visited, museums, restaurants, etc. Done in Civil War fabrics. The Bold Star quilt is made with a great moda and a great plaid. It is a star with snail's trails in the center. Taught at Ruby's Inn at the Winter Retreat! Beautiful job, Bonnie!

"Kaffe Fassett" by Roberta Boyce - This beautiful quilt was made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics and when Roberta's laptop broke and her husband wouldn't "jump to it" and fix it. She echo quilted it all over and it looks beautiful!

"The Foldy Log Cabin" by Mary Killpack - She calls it this because of the design and the way the log cabin squares are constructed. She made it for her grandson who is getting married next month. His favorite color is orange, but she couldn't make herself put orange is this beautiful quilt - so it has an orange guitar label on the back - since he plays the guitar in a band. The colors are blue, cream and red! Lots of beautiful quilts, Mary!
"On the Move" by Mary Killpack - This precious quilt is made with lots of fun, bright machine appliqued cars, trucks and airplanes. Bright green, orange, and red sashing. There is also a fun, orange car label on the back. Made for a great-grandson who will join the family in April, when his mom marries into the family in April. Congrats!

"Happy Birthday to You" by Mary Killpack - Made for her daughter, Maureen, for her 50th birthday (coming up in about 15 years, according to Maureen!!). This beautiful flower quilt is made with soft teal blues and browns. She hand quilted it as a special request from Maureen.

"Brights Galore" by Maureen Tuttle - This is a pattern from Morganson's called "Pioneer Picnic" with a change in fabric placement for a different look. She got all of the fun, bright fabrics from a strip exchange from 'That Alpine Quilt Group'. She made it at Aspen Grove two years ago. Great job, Maureen!

"Stars Around the Garden" , "Squares & Strips", "Scraps from Scraps from Scraps" and "Fiddlesticks" by Suzanne Hillestad - This beautifully needle-turned appliqued medallion center is surrounded by star blocks in Moda's 'Kansas Troubles'. All of that leftover fabric lead to "Squares and Strips" made for her brother's wedding. She found the fun pattern in a magazine. Unfortunately, by the time she finished the quilt, they were divorced! With the leftovers from THAT, she made "Scraps from Scraps from Scraps", she did need to purchase a jelly roll to get more variety in fabric. She sewed 13" strips together in a square, then cut it diagonally corner to corner twice and set them together - beautiful. With the leftovers from THAT, she made "Fiddlesticks". Another darling quilt, in the Kansas Troubles - way to be clever, Suzanne!

"Dresden Plate" by Helen Butler - Pink Dresden plate baby quilt from "Piece o' Cake" designs. A typical, beautifully appliqued quilt with vibrant colors from Helen! She has two daughters expecting - who will get it?

"Humanitarian Quilt" by Debbi Parker - This beautiful quilt is made from orphan blocks and 25 year old scraps! Wow!!!

"Christmas Quilt" by Carol Ford - Carol made this stunning quilt from Sharon Wright's amazing pattern. She learned many things while making it - piping, etc. She did a wonderful job on this quilt! Great quilting by Janet Carpenter completes it!

"Abraham Lincoln Quilt" by Patricia Tolton - Patricia finished her Abraham Lincoln quilt from the UVQG Block of the Month last year!!! It is beautiful with scalloped edges setting it off wonderfully! Way to go, Patricia!
"Mexican Star Quilts by Judie Oler, Brenda Sommers, Joanne Denos, Marilyn Steele, Shirley Olsen & Kathy Porter - Members of the "Knotts Bee" - We made these fun quilts at a retreat in the fall. The pattern looks complicated, but it is pretty simple. Many of them are in beautiful batiks, some in brights and Marilyn and Shirley made theirs BIG! Judy is hand-quilting and donating hers to the Colonial House Auction - 2011.

"Summertime" by Judie Oler - This is Judie's beautiful "Round Robin" quilt that she made in her "Knott's Bee" last year. She made the center 'feathered star' and her group did each of the borders. She is hand-quilting it!

"Christmas With Friends" by Wanda Bonnett - This darling quilt features cute penguins and fun Christmas motifs. Her friend's 'finished' quilt inspired her to make this quilt - because it is so darling! Quilting by Carmen Geddes.

"Keep Santa in your heart All Year Long" by Judy Dixon - This stunning redwork quilt features a Santa for each month of the year - in October, he is holding a pumpkin! Pattern purchased at Broadbents. She worked on all of the embroidery during her husband's illness. Quilted by Carmen Geddes. Super job!

"Brights" by Karen Burt - Karen made this double sized, bright quilt with zany fabrics from Wimsey Cottage. It is beautifully hand-appliqued. Quilting by Wren Woodland. Darling!

"Grandmother's Diamond Ring" by Penny Stephenson - This neat pattern looks like a pointed double wedding ring! It's from the "Creative Pattern Book" by Judy Martin. All fabric (except the border) came from her stash!! Made with scrappy 30's prints and muslin background fabric - she machine quilted this one too!

"Flowers Forever" by Penny Stephenson - This gorgeous quilt has beautifully machine appliqued flower baskets with a swag border. She used creamy yellow for the background. The pattern is from the Rabbit Factory. She machine quilted it herself! Way to go, Penny!

"Cute as a Bug" & 3 table runners by Lela Aston - This darling baby quilt is made with a 'stacked coin' look, with appliqued bugs on it. She also made three gorgeous table runners for her daughter and put "insulbrite" in it, so she could set hot pans on it and protect her table - great idea!!

3 quilts by Mary Jo Roberts - Mary Jo started out to make a quilt for her grandson, they kept turning out too pretty - the first one is with brights and yellows, with super pretty girly shoes on the back. The second was a pretty pastel quilt (from Morgenson's) - still too girly. The third is a beautiful pattern (Morgenson's) with lots of pinks - strike three - her daughters will get them all! Great job, Mary Jo!

"Meet me in Paris" by Lynette Rose - Beautiful Dresden plate pattern in creams - stunning!

"Breezy Log" by Lynette Rose - This beautiful giant king-sized quilt is from a pattern from Jackie Robinson. Lynette fell in love with this fabric and wanted to make a throw, but it got huge. It has great details, pinwheels, leaves, etc. The amazing quilting was done by Carmen Geddes - a Christmas present to herself - it is very detailed and was a little pricey. Wow!!
