March Service Day

Bee Highlight—Maple Mountain Quilters

The Maple Mountain Quilters group, 40+ strong, meets in the High Chaparral Room at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds on the 1st Wednesday of each month September through May. The president this year is Jana Griffin. This Bee welcomes new members of all skill levels. Although most of the members are from southern Utah County, several come from the Provo/Orem area. This is a fun, active Bee. They hold at least 2 parties a year—a tea party and a Christmas lunch. Each summer they hold a 2 –3 day retreat at a member's home. They also select a humanitarian project to participate in every year—Quilts of Valor, Dresses for Africa, comfort pillows, Days for Girls, etc.—and hold a work day to make items for the chosen charity. At the other meetings members present programs, teach tips and tricks, and show their projects in progress. There is always something fun to look forward to with Maple Mountain!

March Service Day

We had 60 wonderful helpers at Service Day and we completed 152 quilts with 40+ in the process of completion. We've completed 226 quilts this year! This year so far we have given 143 to the Utah County Baby Your Baby, and 9 will go the Utah County Refugee Center. The people at Baby Your Baby were teary-eyed and  grateful. Thank you to all who were able to attend and help! And a big thank you to Kathie Zobell and Karren Barley, our Service Day heroes, for all their hard work and organization to make this wonderful day a success, and thank you to all who came. Quilters are amazing people!

Service Day Project

This year we will be sewing lap quilts for the Provo Canyon School in Springville. This school has just opened a new wing that will treat children from 8 yrs. to 14 with behavioral problems. These children will reside at the school until their treatment is completed. We will be enveloping these quilts in the morning of our session and the teachers will help the children tie the quilts when they are received. In the afternoon we will do part two of our project. We will be sewing simple pillows for Breast Cancer survivors. The pattern will be on the UVQG website for those who would like to make them at home. They can be made of flannel or cotton fabrics.

Please bring your sewing machine, scissors and white, pink and tan thread if you wish to sew. We will have pillows to stuff and hand sew closed for those of you who wish to do those tasks.

Once again we will be enjoying a wonderful potluck luncheon. Please bring your favorite salad, soup, rolls or dessert.

If you cannot attend our event, and wish to receive a quilt kit or pillow kit, please call me and I will make one available to you (801) 798-7495.
Thanks so much for your efforts in making this another successful and very worthwhile project.

Service Day Flannel Receiving Blankets

As you should have heard, this year for service day, one project is receiving blankets. Several have expressed a desire to begin working on these right away. Thanks!

Here are two patterns for receiving blankets from Annette Crain:

Try clicking on the picture for a larger picture and printing that. If that doesn't work, we will figure out something else.

Thanks again!

I couldn't get those to work. However, I did get the files to work from the website. So here is the link to the website: http://www.uvqg.org/Programs___Workshops.html. These are PDF files of the website so you do need Adobe Acrobat (a free program) to see theses. Also, they do open in a new window so if your "Pop-up Blocker" is on, that may be a problem, but it wasn't a problem on my computer. If you can't get either one to work, then let me know.

Thanks! Konda
