Once again we had some amazing quilts shown by our very own amazing quilters!
“Turning 20 Around the Block” by Lela Aston – This beautiful quilt is all red and white with the focus blocks embroidered in Redwork ABCs. It is queen sized and Lela quilted it all by herself on her sewing machine!
“Friendship Star” by Jean Jackson – This darling baby quilt was made with scraps out of the scrap bag – wow; I don’t think I have those scraps in my scrap bag!
“Sampler Quilt” by Jean Jackson – Jean cleverly combined 2 different “block of the months” to make this great quilt! It is made in reproduction fabrics from the 1800’s. The muted colors are cool and she found a wonderful stripe to tie it all together – she says it’s a “crazy reproduction quilt”.
“A Year at a Glance” by Shirley Griffiths – This lovely quilt was the UVQG block of the month in 2005. It is all hand appliquéd in blanket stitch, which Shirley shared, takes a looong time! She completed it last year and it was machine quilted by Virginia Gore. It took her so long because she couldn’t figure out the border, plus she burned a hole in one of the block with her iron! She did a great job repairing it – way to be persistent, Shirley!
“Paddington Bear’s Miracle” by Paulette Patterson – This sweet quilt has cute little Paddington Bears on the front and the back. It is made with bright colors – red, blue, yellow, green and orange. Paulette’s daughter has been married for 9 years and has never been able to have children. Three years ago they started the adoption process and will be adopting a baby boy in July. Paddington Bear is very popular in
“Fruit of the Vine” by Helen Butler – Another gorgeous whole-cloth quilt by Helen! This beautiful, white quilt is made from 100% cotton sateen fabric. Wow!
“Peacock Feathers” by Helen Butler – This small green quilt is made from some beautiful green Dupioni silk that Helen had leftover from her daughters gown for the Jr. Miss Pageant. She didn’t want to throw it away, so she made this neat little quilt with blue and gold metallic thread.
“Chain of Love” by Lorri Overson – This pretty quilt is in pastels with a white background. Lorri has been machine quilting for 7 years, she finished this quilt to exhibit in the Home Machine Quilting Show. Each feather design is unique!
“Alexander’s Race Car Quilt” by Suzzanne Cutler – Suzzanne made this darling quilt for her four year old son, Alexander. It is similar to a block of the month, but she made it up herself. There are blues, yellows, reds and green with prairie points too. There is a racetrack with handquilted cars on it and a grandstand! The clever blocks have 3D pockets in them, so her son can park his cars in them overnight.
