by Karin Crawford, Historian
The September meeting was a spotlight on two very accomplished quilters in our area: Marilyn Toone with major technical help from her husband, Warren, & Helen Butler. The Forum was introduced by Francine Berrett. Marilyn and Warren have been collaborating on quilts for over 30 years. Warren is an engineer with special talent in putting the correct numbers into patterns miss-written by magazines and other sources. This he did with just a slide-ruler and compass (think before EQ programs!) Marilyn is a master of applique and hand quilting. She has won numerous awards of the years with a win at Springville having her quilt selected as The Director's Choice. Here are some of the beautiful quilts she brought to share.
This traditional wedding ring quilt has been enhanced by the beautiful hand applique in the 4 corners with baskets of flowers.
This Trip Around the World was a pattern Warren worked out complete with the number of yards needed for each of the fabrics used.
This beautiful applique and pieced quilt was designed by Marilyn and made possible by Warren who worked out the size of the pieces, borders, and compasses.
