Show and Tell
Linda Roskelley showed us her quilt named
“Sunflowers”. This is one of her “PIGS”
that she is happy to have completed. She
didn’t realize until she had put the quilt together how the greens make a
variegated design. So beautiful!
Next is Michelle Hansen with her quilt “Hidden
Stars”. This was a Block of the Month
that she taught at Cherry Tree Cottage.
She used Marti Michel templates and Buggy Barn Sherbet fabrics. She proved that she loves purple and green in
her quilt and in the cute outfit she was wearing.
Carol Hunt showed two quilts. First an American Quilting design called
“Saturday Sampler” that she made in 2015-2016.
Then she wowed the guild with her Yo-Yo quilt that has 2,622
yo-yo’s. She started making it in 2002,
cutting all the pieces by hand with scissors.
There were no Clover yo-yo makers then.
She stitched many of the yo-yo’s together by hand until she discovered a
method of dropping the feed dogs on her machine, using the buttonhole stitch,
and stitching them together by machine.
The design is similar to one she saw in a book.
Marlene Cook also brought two fun quilts to show. The first one is a scrap quilt design by Aunt Rosie that Marlene started at retreat to use up a lot of her scraps. The quilt grew bigger than she had planned as she got talking and sewing with friends at the retreat. She bought a blanket at Target for the backing which doesn’t have any seams and is very soft. Her second quilt was by Amy Bradley, a child’s pirate quilt. She’s actually made 4 of these quilts with her sisters when they got together at one of their Sisters’ Super Saturdays.
Gloria Hartley found an unfinished quilt at the garage
sale in 2015. It was missing some of the
instructions, so she tracked down where the sampler pattern originated (Whimsy
Cottage) and was able to get the remaining instructions and finish the
top. She is going to quilt it and donate
it to the quilt auction next year.
Nancy Leach has been making “Bee Happy” zippered pouches
for her grandkids and brought one to show us.
They were very cute, and we’re sure there are some very happy
grandchildren in her family.
Kristen Webb Trunk Show
Kristin is from Elk Ridge and has been quilting for eleven years.
She particularly enjoys long arm quilting. She met our Program Committee member Carol Ford at a retreat they both attended and both said the best part of going to retreats is meeting new friends. Carol was so impressed with Kristin's talents she was thrilled when Kristin agreed to come to our guild and treat us to a trunk show. Kristin brought many of her quilts as well as some of her friends quilts that she has quilted on her long arm machine.
