May Show and Tell

Suzanne Hillestad made "Flying Geese and Stars" with red, blue, cream and gold scraps for her Quilt of Valor.  Her patriotic and timely contribution followed Francine's plug that we need more of these special quilts for our service men and women!

Diana Hess composed, "Autumn at Bear Lake", an original and majestic landscape quilt of Bear Lake in the Autumn.  She took an online landscape class from Susan Brittingham at quiltuniversity.com:
Marie Haws and Lynette Rose displayed "Boot Scootin'", a bright, fun opportunity quilt made by The Undercover Quilters.  It will be 'opportunitied' at the Days of '47 Rodeo.  Proceeds go to The Cure Starts Now Foundation for pediatric brain cancer research.
Lil Anderson presented "Log Cabin", a scrappy log cabin set on point.  She put the blocks together like paper piecing without the paper! Demo, please, Lil?!?
Joann Barr made "Rustic Stars". This BOM from a quilt shop in Las Vegas is comprised of batiks in rich, deep colors, and is all paper-pieced.  She started it in 2010 and finished in 2011.
Trudy Gibbs displayed "Shadow Burst" made from turquoise and neutral fabrics. This beautiful quilt has significance as a wedding quilt for her first son to be married, such an event!

May Main Speaker

This month we had Valerie Cutrer from the Festival of Trees come and speak to us.  The Festival of Trees is a fundraiser for the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake.  There is a "Quilt Block" area at the festival for donated quilts that are auctioned and sold to raise money.  She brought her co-volunteer, Doris Thurgood.

Here are some examples of quilts and tops that have been donated for this years' Festival:

They gave out yummy Riley Blake fabrics for us to make a quilt to donate to the Festival.

May Hospitality

Lil Anderson did a great job with our hospitality area for May:

May Forum - Collages

Our very own, Kathy Porter taught us a fun new skill- making fabric collages!

She said we didn't need to bring our own scraps, she had some - boy did she ever!

Everyone let their creativity blossom (with some encouragement from Kathy):

Quilts of Valor

Our Guild received a certificate of appreciation for the quilts of valor we have donated:

Keep sewing, ladies!
